I have a Sony MDS-JB920 deck which allows you to switch both the digital
input and output bit length to either 16, 20 or 24 bits. I record MDs
through an optical input from my Sony CDP-C515 5-disc CD changer, which is
several years old. Given that CDs are encoded at 16 bits, and the age of the
source (I have no way of knowing for sure, but I doubt that it's outputting
any more than 16), is there any advantage with this setup in having the input
bit length set to anything other than 16 bits?
