My 10 year old Pioneer PD-91 has 18 bit DACs (think the oversampled data is
sent to the DACs with 18bit precision)
I suspect it also outputs an 18 bit signal. On my 920 I get very brash
recordings with the input length set to 16 bits.
When set to 20 bits, the recording is much more like the sound I get when
playing the original CD. On the 16 bit setting, the 18 bit steam must be
truncated.
