What exactly do you mean by a "basic unit"? If you mean one on which one
cannot retrieve a deleted track, and you consider any unit on which one can
retrieve a deleted track not basic, then sure. One cannot retrieve it on a
unit where one cannot retrieve it. There is no disputing that.
However, not all MD recorders fit that definition of "basic," and on most
Sony decks [the JE320, JE500, and JE510 being notable exceptions] one can
recover a deleted track even after the TOC has been updated to save the
deletion.
