That is the way it should be done. You can always position any
recorder that I know of so it will record over tracks on purpose, but it
is a rare occation that you want to do that, and having it make a new
track at the end should be the default, instaed of having it just write
in the middle of your recording. The home decks designers were smart
enough to set it up that way. I guess the head of the portable recorder
design group must be an old fart that can't get linear tape recorders
out of his noggin. I, and a lot of others, will be glad when he
retires.
