Tom you are wrong here. You are affixing the blame for stupidity to the
wrong party. How can one company make a deck that works with automatic
end search, and then make a portable that will wipe out a disk if you
operate it like you do the home  deck that you have gotten used to? 
That is where the stupidity lies, not with the conusmer.  They could
have made  the end search so it goes to the end of the recroder mateiral
so you can get there quickly on playback, but when you hit record, it
should do an end search automatically and not overwirte previoulsy
recorded material.
