Sounds more like he had duff ones. Even the cheap NiMH cells do about 500
charges on problem at all. Did he use a proper NiMH charger, or did he stick
them in the NiCd charger? You need a proper charger for NiMH cells because
they have different charging requirements.

THe ones I'm using quoted something silly like 6000 charges, I dunno how
accurate that is but even if it was only 12 that beats the hell out of
Alkaline!

Thats NiCd batteries. NiMH batteries are similar but have no memory effect,
so you can top them up if you want and it wont effect the battery life. You
need to fully charge and discharge NiMH batteries occasionally to get the
best life from them.

THere's some truth in it, but it sounds like your friend got a couple of
knackered NiCd batteries.  The NiMH batteries are much better and last a lot
longer. I use 2 in my R55 and get about 6 hours recording from them, not
sure how much playback time though, I've never managed to use it long enough
to find out. It's over 16 hours though.
