1. No, i did not notice the difference when the case was open, but , i did
drop my unit from about 1 meter high and it still played but the pop-out
mechanism 'broke' = it would not pop out the discs after i would raise the
cover of the 831.
So the problem was (after opening the 831) a little piece of metal that
tripped the pop-out spring had SLIPPED!!! from its place (this little flat
piece is not held in any way to the chassy it just fits between 'cracks' so it
could easily slip again).
I did put it back but this is a warning because it seems the 831 is not
built that carefully and with attention to detail and we should watch not to
abuse it.
If anyone gets this problem you have to open the cover from the back - on
the same plane with the battery, and you will also see that the battery
chamber is not isolated from the insides of the 831.
2. even with digital /analog level control it does not appropriately preview
the sound that will be recorded - i can't tell if i had turned the level too
high for cuttoff - that might be a benefit, no?
3. when putting pause on recording and changing mode to MONO you wont hear the
sound in both earphones - just the left or right = no mono preview (i guess).
thats about it for now...
