That's been the same with all Sharp Portables (701/702/721/722) that
there has been no mono preview at all. Not sure if the 831 is suppose
to have one, if you read in the manual it will (probably) say "the
sound you here when recording in mono will be stereo, but the sound
recorded will be in mono" or words to those effect ;)
All in all, quite a good unit. But you can still see why I went for
slot in loading instead of pop out ;) ie. 722 over 831.
