Three things will solve this problem:

    1. Get a bass roll-off filter. Heavy bass will drown out a lot of other
frequencies. It's not the MDs fault if all that's left for it to encode is
heavy bass.
    2. Get better mics - the digital noise is primarily due to lack of
definition from the mics
    3. Run the mics off a battery box - the power from the 722 is only
really enough to drive a small stereo mic for voice recordings. Louder
sources such as concerts need better mics which require more power to drive
them.

Better luck next time, but don't give in, the results will be worth your
persistence!
