I'm interested in reading reviews, recommendations, or comparisons
of software tools for editing audio files. I'm just beginning my
research and don't really know where to start. I have all of the
equipment to record and digitally transfer audio between my
PC and MD - now all I need is a decent intermediate level software
package that will allow me to edit the audio before recording back
to MD or CDR. Something that will handle EQ, noise reduction,
splicing, levels, etc.

I began my research by looking through the md-l archives and found
a few messages about "Cooledit" and "Sound Forge". Can any of you
provide a first hand comparison on easy of use, quality, price, etc
on these two packages? What other tools are people using? Are there
any comprehensive web sites that provide an overview of competing
products?

Feel free to reply directly to me, unless you have info that may be of
interest to others on the list.

Thanks,
  --Ryan
