I use Soundforge for my dynamics processing (ie. Volume) and Cooledit Pro
for flavouring the sound thanks to its abundant 30-band EQ.

Otherwise, as far as what they have to offer in their other features, I
would consider Soundforge to be a more powerful package bar its sorely
lacking EQ.

Cooledit Pro does have a very good noise reduction package but you can get a
Noise Reduction plug-in for Soundforge which is phenomenal by comparison.

Splicing wise, they're both a very easy to use package, although I find
Cooledit Pro better for the job in terms of speed when cutting and pasting.
Soundforge is a lot more resource hungry than Cooledit Pro, in my
experience.

Adios,
LarZ

Subject: MD: Software recommendations/reviews?

I'm interested in reading reviews, recommendations, or comparisons
of software tools for editing audio files. I'm just beginning my
research and don't really know where to start. I have all of the
equipment to record and digitally transfer audio between my
PC and MD - now all I need is a decent intermediate level software
package that will allow me to edit the audio before recording back
to MD or CDR. Something that will handle EQ, noise reduction,
splicing, levels, etc.
