Jim,

     Thanks for the response.  That's a good idea but it doesn't seem to 
be the problem.  I have waited ten minutes after the disk has stopped and 
the unit has turned off and still it stays locked.  I even tried starting 
and stopping it multiple times to see if the mechanism that keeps it 
closed while it's playing is not releasing after 'stop' is pressed- no 
luck.  It only seems to open, when stuck, if I press down in circular 
motions on the lid near the hinge and then try to open it.  I am guessing 
that the mechanism that is supposed to release after play is stopped is 
not working all the time or the hinge on the lid, which is not visibly 
loose, is somehow affecting the manual release mechanism.  Any other 
thoughts???
