Bzzzz! Sorry, but that answer is incorrect ;-)
Only the early 702 models had UTOC problems. Subsequent 702s (-MK models)
and non-702s have not had these problems.

"Feature?" Let's see... on my Sony unit, I have to remember to hit a
button before I start recording, or else I'll record over other stuff. On
my girlfriend's Sharp, when I press record it automatically goes to the
end of recorded material so I don't record over anything. "Sony feature?"
Right...
By the way, both Sony and Sharp units allow you to start recording
anywhere you want, so there is absolutely no reason the Sony units should
have this ridiculous button. The Sony home decks don't have it, no other
units from any other manufacturer has it, so why do the Sony portables?
