No, No, No, No, NO!!!!!
Don't just buy two NiMH cells to replace the DM-20. Check very carefully the
maximum recommended charge rate & time. Mine are 1300mAH capacity
Uniross cells, and have a recommended charge of either
14-16hrs @ 130mA
8 hrs @ 210mA.
I decided to phone Uniross customer services and was put through to a
"technical" support section, and asked if I could charge them faster in my MD
unit at a rate which should charge them in 2-3 hours, presumably at a charge
rate of 500mA.
They replied at best that doing so would significantly shorten the life of the
batteries, and could result in leakage, possibly damaging the unit. Given I
would be charging at about 2.5x the recommended charge rate I haven't
taken any chances.
Having said that I have repeatedly recharged 650mAH NiCads in the unit
however they were intended for use with a 2hr charge @ 350mA, somewhat
nearer the charge the MZ-R3 gives (though still taking a few liberties on my
part :-)
