Actually it is the Audio Home Recording act, 17FR10, that
specifically grants the right to copy AUDIO matter for personal
use. One might find it interesting to go to
http://www.loc.gov/copyright/title17/ and look at the copyright
act. 17CFR10 created Chapter 10 of the law. This section also
addresses video recording, despite its title. The right to tape at
home was previously established by Supreme Court ruling but Chapter
10 codifies it, while creating a huge money trough for the music and
movie industry hogs to feed from.
If you have a strong stomach, look at all chapters after Chapter 7.
These illustrate in stark detail just what kind of bad law one can
buy, given enough money.
