Good point. Pretty much one I was trying to make earlier.
Price is gonna be one consideration. Lack of comprehensive prerecorded media
has probably been a factor in not attracting more punters.
I guess the lack of something truly tangible to attract to the masses, that
makes the difference in expense worthwhile. I mean from a portable
perspective, what would persuade your average walkman buyer, to get a
portable MD.
The convenience and flexibility of the format appears to have pretty much
attracted those that would seek these traits, but for the masses?
Don't get me wrong, I'm not anti-MD - far from it, I committed as anybody.
I'm just pragmatic and realistic. It's not a silver bullet or a killer
format that's gonna appeal to everybody.

Superiority is a luxury of class. It's far from being a guarentee, or even
hint of success.

It's not hit mainstream. It does have a reasonably established, possibly
loyal and parochial, user base. Whether this is substantial enough to
encourage the format to be retained and developed in the medium term, I'm
not truly sure.

Whilst that may, or may not, be true, there does seem to be quite a lot of
postings from newcomers to either format (either here on in AAM) asking
which is better - which then provoke arguments from either side of the fence
- sometimes particularly empassioned.

Give *what* a rest?
Surely if people are speculating on a format that's likely to have
longevity, it's a reasonable line of dialogue?
Why are you so defensive?

Has anybody advocated that this not be true, necessarily?

Indeed. The potential irony of this is ever-so-slightly amusing.

Just buy one, already... ;-)
