That would apply to a consumer-grade MD/CDR combo unit (if one exists) just
as it does to a cable connection from an MD player to a CDR recorder.
Consumer-grade CD/MD combinations obey SCMS now for transfers over their
internal buses.

I don't remember Ben's specifically stating that he would use premastered MDs
as his sources for dubbing to CDR.

They aren't. Well, CDs exist in all SCMS settings, but to my knowledge no
one has as yet reported a premastered MD that was not SCMS-penultimate, like
most retail CDs.
