I purchased a Sony MDS-JE510 from Best Buy about 2 or 3 years ago (for
~$400). Long (and familiar) story short, it lemoned out and so I was
told that I'm owed another player -- one of equal or less value, I'm
sure. At least comparable in price.
However, all that the Best Buys around me here in Houston are selling
now are JE330s and CD/MD combos, which I am not interested in. (Of
course, there are 5 CD recorders right next to these.) When I asked the
often inept sales associates if anything could be done, I was told that
a refund was out of the question, as it's been "over 30 days" since the
player was purchased. No, Best Buy could not special order any other
model (even the 520, the version that IIRC fixed the 510 problems).
My question is the following: Is there anything I can do? I find it
unfair that because Best Buy has suddenly almost stopped selling MD
equipment, they will do nothing to give me a fair deal. I feel that I
should at least get a 520 out of this. Obviously, Sony has more models
than they are offering (see
http://www.sel.sony.com/SEL/consumer/md/04prods_hifi.html?mdsje520). Can
I do anything, or has Big Business screwed me over completely? I was
thinking of writing the corporate office to see what would happen.
(In addition, one salesman -- a young guy -- told me that nobody was
buying MD and, at best, it was on its way out. Boy, he made me mad.)
