The MD-MS702 (pre MK) models had bad UTOC problems. But that's not a
common problem with the 722. You just got a lemon. It happens. In every
consumer electronics product, there is a known percentage of faulty
units. You apparently happened to be unlucky enough to get one of them.
It's frustrating, I know, but I don't understand this mentality of "I'll
never buy x again" after a single problem. Maybe if you'd gotten two or
three bad units in a row, but this was your first unit -- it doesn't mean
every Sharp is bad, just as my Sony MZR50 with the bad headphone
connection doesn't mean every Sony is bad. Give 'em a chance to fix it ;-)
For the record, I also got one of the 722's for $133 at Mercata. It has
worked beautifully. My girlfriend has had a 702, for about a year and a
half now, that never had any UTOC (or any other) problems. I also have a
two-year-old Sony MZR50 that has a loose headphone connection, but other
than that has worked great.
