I just thought about something. We have spend so much time debating whether an MD
copy sounds as good as it's CD original. Whether MD is better then MP3.
Then we debated just what high end equipment is and how much difference that makes.
While there is no doubt that different grades of DACs and ADCs are important as is
the laser, transport, error correction electronics and so forth.
But putting aside CD players and MD recorders, I think that any really decent amp
(be it separates or a good receiver (probably even as low as the $350 range) will
not be the critical factors.
Distortion and things like hum should be as low as possible to qualify. You should
be able to turn the volume all the way up (without any thing plugged in to any of
the inputs) and not hear ANY hum.
Now after saying all of that crap, let get to the point. It's the SPEAKERS stupid
(to paraphrase Bill Clinton). The weakest link in the chain are the speakers.
Always budget the most money for the speakers.
Buy the very best speakers you can afford. Even if it means buying a slightly less
expensive receiver or amps. Maybe giving up some of the bells and whistles.
Then NEVER buy speakers without a 100% no questions asked return policy. Speakers
will sound different every where they are placed. Also, consider the room. You
may need to add or subtract some sound absorbing objects.

PS if none of this makes sense, It's 5:30 AM and I still haven't gone to sleep
yet!!
