Difficult to answer, that one. I've not yet come across a DVD player that
doesn't function as a CD player (I suspect it probably is within the format
spec?). And in theory, it wouldn't be unreasonable to expect that all CD
players / DVD players would do the necessary, with the digital output
signal, in order for devices - such as MDs to correctly infer the track
marks. However some don't - of both varieties, CD players and DVD players.

I can only suggest either net / deja search to see if the model you're
thinking of has been previously discussed - or perhaps an infinitely better
solution - seeing if you can actually try a quick test, in-store (assuming
that's where you're gonna get one from).

I suspect there's nothing obvious from either the spec, or the owners manual
that would give much of a hint to this behaviour.
