Your statement is slightly flawed because civil law is NOT equivalent to
criminal law. Aiding and abetting only applies to criminal law. In many cases
the victim does not have to file charges against the suspect to have him/her
indicted.
If I shoot you or aid and abet in doing so, you don't have to file charges
against me (or your relatives if you die) for me to be brought up on charges.
That's not the case in civil law.
If you could equate criminal law to civil law, half of the companies in the
United States would be out of business!! Even patents are only as good as how
much money you have to defend them!
Even a patent (or copyright for that matter) is violated, if the holder does
have the money to defend their ownership, the patent is worthless!
Do you realize how many big companies steal patents all of the time because they
know that some kid who invented something in his garage probably doesn't have
the resources to defend the patent.
The government doesn't defend your rights. You have to hire an attorney and do
so.
Everyday insurance companies deny claims that they are legally responsible to
pay. In most cases if that happens, the only way to collect from them is to
sue. Of course with the life and death decisions that medical insurance
companies are making now a days, they seem to be getting away with murder also.
So what it comes down to is who ever has the most toys when he dies wins :)
