Having owned the Senn MX500s and the Sony EX70s, I definitely prefer
the Sonys. I know this goes against the grain somewhat, but i really
didn't rate the Senns thatr highly. I found them lacking in upper
mid-range, and almost devoid of treble. They also lacked clarity and
detail throughout the whole spectrum, and would fall out of my ears
easily (with and without the foam pads) However, I know that many
people like them alot, so my opinion is clearly not the 'last word'
on this matter.
The EX70s, aren't perfect, the mid-range is very weak
(bordering on non-existent) although problems with the shrill treble
which plagued early EX70s have now been resolved (If you want to make
sure you buying a set of the new 'improved' EX70s, make sure they
come with 3 sets of buds, not 2. I haven't seen any of the 'old'
EX70s in the UK). They deliver *thumping* bass, which is completely
unmatched by any other model of earbud, and is good if you listen to
a lot of dance music. They also offer *excellent* isolation - you can
hear hardly anything except the music when wearing them. So they are
especially good if you use public transport a lot. However, as I've
already mentioned you will have to put up with the poor mid-range.
If you want to buy on-line, I would recommend Apple sound for the
Sennheisers which cost £20: http://www.applesound.co.uk
If you want to buy the Sonys, the cheapest place is
www.unbeatable.co.uk which sell them for about £30 inc p+p. They are
also available at Dixons for about £35.
        Hope this helped.
        Robin.
