O Wise MiniDisc Gods,
I record on the portable Sony MiniDisc MZ-R90. I want the sound data
uncompressed on my computer so I can start editing and reusing my MiniDiscs.
My Mac can accept coax SPIDF and optical SPIDF (and also USB, SCSI, and
Firewire, and the Virtual PC software to emulate Windows). I want to get
digital recordings from it without going to analog. Yes, I understand I am
getting the uncompressed data, not the ATRAC compressed data.
My portable MiniDisc is a great small size, but doesn't have digital *out*.
So, I'm considering getting another MD player (it doesn't have to be able to
record, just spit out digital.) for this purpose.
What good options are there for under $700 currently available?
I know these options are currently purchasable from real stores:
Sony MDS-E12 approx $650 at B&H -- rackmount
Sony MDS-PC3 approx $600 -- tabletop deck with Windows connection software
(anyone tried this ?? I haven't seen it myself, but SonyStyle sells it)
Pioneer MJD508 $279
Kenwood MD-203 $249.95 from SmartShop.com
There are lots of other sexy solutions, including the HHB MDP-500 and
Marantz PMD-650, but they are much pricier. And there are old models that
are listed as in this price range but I cannot find for sale. :-(
1) Can you recommend any option listed above based on your experience?
2) Are there are OTHER OPTIONS I should consider for less than $800 and are
actually purchasable in the United States at the current time? Any web links
to online purchase would be appreciated...
3) Are there good "mini" MiniDiscs in this price range with digital *out*?
Thanks,
