I'm not trying to defend the 7xx here, but I have a hard time believing the
R900 would be the most satisfying portable MD purchase for anyone.
My sample of R900 sees rather erratic behaviour regarding battery level -
there's no sense of when it might run out at all by checking the indicator.
Well, that's the way indicators should be with most rechargeable batteries,
but no other portable I've owned is as erratic as the R900.
I am personally not happy with the bass/treble control, like I've brought up
on many other occasions. Even after 6 months of frequent use I still
continue to press all the wrong things on the R900... I feel like its
interface is hurrying me along with a whip. But that's probably just me.
The Sharp interface is straight forward, and Panasonic has done a nice job
with the interface on the MR200 (which I also own). The MR200 is loud, but
unlike the R900, you can make it not-so-loud by making the spindle run
constantly.
I bought the R900 instead of the MR200, wanting to give Sony a chance (I've
been a Sharp person through and through). But in the end I bought the MR200
anyway, and I am happy to report that its ATRAC encoding is stellar.
