Hi,

I've asked around the know-how MD and Mobile audio shops and
there doesn't seem to be any *cheap* way of connecting the
portable and head units together without having the bus line.

You can off course give it to some electronic whizz and see if he can
by-pass the swithc inseide the head unit so that input is take nfrom the
RCAs on the back of the head unit, BUT warranty problems!!

I think the little box you talk about is called a 'source selector'.

My only solution now is thus:
Spend some money on a changer (make it CD, 'cause you want to use
a portable MD), and you can just as well get a decent changer 'cause then
you can play CDs as well. Then you just put a 'splitter' on the RCA cables
before it goes into the head unit. The one set coming from the changer and
the other neatly tucked in beside your seat, etc. Thus you select the
source on the head unit to the CD changer and instead of playing the CD,
you just press play on the portable, and viola!, MD to the head unit.
(Obviously you can then play the CD and MD together to mix you own music
;-D )

ciao,

Sean.
