One approach is the Edirol UA-30 -- it has Toslink in-out, line in-out,
guitar or mike in. I have used it to transfer to/from Minidisc with a Mac
Ibook. I have also used it to transfer from tapes to computer (to CD).It has
worked fairly well, but not totally glitch-free. Once it crashed and I then
couldn't hook up with anything soundwise. I pitched the Sound Manager prefs
and was back in business. It comes on the Mac side with Peak LE. Normally
however I record with Amadeus 2 and use that or Soundhack for data
manipulation. I think it requires 9.04.

On the PC side things are a bit dicier with the box. It will work 9acording
to the documentation) with only certain USB chips.

   Subject: MD: USB optical?

I can guarantee that this has been covered before (and
probably to death), so apologies in advance...

I'm looking for a means of getting a TOSlink connector
to a Sony MZR-90 from a Mac. Because of the limited
slots, I'm trying to avoid a solution that takes up a
PCI slot (I already have a SB Live in one). How are
USB solutions? Anything someone would recommend? How
about something that did input and output?

   Thanks...
   Brian
