Agreed. This is pretty much what I've been waiting for, and why I
didn't buy one of the new mdlp units to replace my R50. This will also
make minidisc a very strong competitor to the mp3 players. I hope there
is a utility to easily and QUICKLY convert mp3 to atrac.

The release states that music recorded (saved) on the NetMD stuff will be
playable in atrac and atrac3 MD players. There should be no strange new
standards coming out to mess with the existing customer base, only improve
on what is there, and add features.

True, as long as it's cheap, (and free mp3s are pretty cheap) people will
not argue about the quality. An over abundance of lower quality will make
it a standard, and then the entire society suffers, with the ever changing
markets.
