*sniff*
My Sony ZS-M1 just went belly up on me last week. (There was a little 10mm
diameter magnetic washer-type thing that clamped onto the hub of the
inserted MD supposedly to spin it, that came out/loose with the last
successful MD I put in there...) I had the puppy since mid-1994. It was a
hateful little unit that I grew to love in spite of it's myriad
inadequacies. I'm sure the engineering crew at Sony had their reasons....
"Hey! Let's make a bulky 13 pound bookshelf unit that really doesn't want
to accept any minidisc, has an inane menu structure, can't take batteries,
and doesn't have a handle to carry it around at all!" heh heh. But it
sounded great.
I *used to use* that unit to record my radio show, used kindof as a
low-level in-studio monitor if there were extra musicians in studio or
something so they wouldn't all need headphones etc. to hear callers, etc.
The Bose speakers on the unit were great sounding. I'd make mix MDs at
home, maybe 5 new ones every six months, and would pull some out for card or
dinner parties.
Anyway, I use my Aiwa portable to record and playback music when I'm
wandering 'round, doing some half-assed exercise... Or for work, with
headphones.
I LOVE the actual minidisc package itself. Whether actual or not, it SEEMS
so rugged. It'd be great if modern MD recorders allowed you to record MP3
or something on there.
