This e mail is directed to Eric Woudenberg and anyone else with any kind of inside
track to Sony.
Is there any way to find out what the story is with Net MD? Is it real and when
will it be released?
Sony's release of the the 909 has me a little concerned. If you plan to be
releasing Net MD, why come out with a modest upgrade to the 900 first?
One other question on an other topic. Does anyone know if it is possible to have
a software solution for the PC that would convert Wav or CD audio "files" to
ATRAC? I know that even though CD audio "files" are really not files (they only
show up as 1kb if you check them out with Windows Explorer) it is possible to make
them wave files.
Conversely, if you record WAV files using a CD writing program set to make audio
CDs, it can handle WAV files just like they were CD audio. Unlike MP3 files which
would have to be converted to WAV files first to create an audio CD.
MP3 files are data files.
There would have to be a PC link that would allow you to handle ATRAC "files" from
an MD player kind of the way CD ROM drives are capable of digital audio
extraction. Of course this might be what Net MD is all about, if Sony wasn't so
vague in it's press release.
I know that very often there are both software and hardware solutions for the PC.
You can use a DVD hardware decoder card or software to play DVDs on a PC. It
seems that in most cases hardware solutions are more expensive for do a better
job.
USB seems to be capable of linking a PC to many peripherals instead of having to
use a card. PC cards seem to be mini versions of the cards internal cards of a
desktop.
