Deerfield again....

For almost a year now, We at Deerfield have endured this
nonstopassassination on our character and products from Arvel since he
"fired" us. We have done our best not to participate in such
bbehaviorecause we are simply interested in getting on with our business
which extends far beyond a mail server. All I can say is that we have
our side of the story, which I do not feel compelled to share publicly
at every opportunity. I really doubt that there are many people that
really care about our differences anyway, but if there are some that do,
they can contact me directly at the email address provided in Arvel's
thread.

WRT MDaemon, it is a good product. During our tenure with MDaemon at
Deerfield which lasted about 6 years, we helped grow this business from
100K annually to be on a pace of about 6 Million annually in 2002
(increasing each years sales by over 40%), and we created significant
sales channels for this product which Alt-N enjoys still today. It is
true, that you can not do that without a good product. We had a desire
to continue to represent the product line post-exclusivity, but were
unable to negotiate any kind of agreement. We made a major committment
to this product internally at Deerfield, and when our agreement was not
renewed, we endured a great deal of hardship at Deerfield, while Alt-N
has benefited from all of the fruits of our labor, including access to
all of the sales channels and the hiring of several former Deerfield.com
employees. We can live with all of that, and I wish them the best,
however I'm still a publisher/employer and have a responsibility to
ensure our business survives and provide those that are committed to
Deerfield the best opportuntiy I can.

One would have to ask yourself that if all of the Deerfield products are
"junk" and Deerfield is so ruthless, then why would Alt-N (or anybody
for that matter) even be concerned about us? Why have some of the best
features of VMS made it into MDaemon?

VMS is also a good product, but it fits a slightly different audience,
and for some MDaemon users it is a better fit, for others it is not. It
is an excellent platform to support our new line of messaging products,
which is what we needed post-altn.

WRT the customer database, and our contacting of these customers - we
are fully within our right as these people are Deerfield.com customers
(regardless of what product they purchased). In the examples shared in
this thread, you will notice that these customers are running other
products from Deerfield that did not come from Alt-N. Cross-selling has
always been a Deerfield strategy (when it is good for the customer), and
we used this extensively to Alt-N's benefit when they were represented
by Deerfield. We didn't "steal" anything, and there are no contractual
limitations on we can do with Deerfield.com customers that purchaed
Alt-N products. In fact, if it is in a Deerfield.com customer's best
interests to switch from VMS to MD, then so be it.

IMHO, Alt-N has much bigger fish to fry than Deerfield, but if they want
to continued to be preoccupied with us, it only provides Deerfield more
"unfair" competitive advantage.
