FYI, just confirmed after speaking to our tech at Lenovo, both KMDF and UMDF are required for the newer models. He did explain Lenovo is starting to require these two pieces for cross-platform driver support/added functionality to Windows 8.
Also, confirmed working now (test machine just rebooted into Windows minutes ago) with KMDF and UMDF added to our image.
