Not just a restart, if the TPM isnt already activated a keypress is needed.
(Function key)

I’ve just done the MBAM 2.5 upgrade at a client. At this point in time, we are
deploying it at imaging time. Everything in the field is already encrypted.

Mbam will prompt the users to encrypt. if you are not using mbam and you do
not require a pin it should just do it. if the TPM has not been configured a
restart is needed to begin encryption no matter what.

Does that make sense? A new version of mbam was just released as well.

When you apply the proper GPOS for bitlocker and tpm management will bitlocker

I cant seem to get a clear answer on this.
