I haven't switched to the ADK from Update yet, why do you feel the need?

For a new, clean MDT installation just for building / deploying Windows 8.1
Update, it only seemed appropriate.
Now that I know to ignore the Components node altogether, all is well.

IIRC,

You need to have Windows 8.1 ADK installed, then install MDT 2013. After that
you can remove the ADK and install the one from Update.

I Installed ADK for Windows 8.1 Update outside of and prior to installing MDT
2013 and am having problems getting MDT to recognize under Components. Am I
missing something?
