IIRC you can run WDS on a workstation, so no server license required. That
does however present some limitations if the deployment share is on the
workstation as well since it would be restricted to 10 concurrent users.

Subject: [MDT-OSD] Building a linux based MDT deployment point with PXE server
Hey Folks,
Has anyone ever looked into creating a Linux based deployment point. I'm just
making a mental checklist of things I would need and I don't see why it
wouldn't work.
Checklist:
· Tftp server
· Dhcp server
· Http server to help tftp server
· PXELinux config to boot litetouch.bin
· SMB file share of MDT deployment point
If it's possible then I don't see why multicasting wouldn't be possible as
well. For those who say just use WDS, I'm pretty sure there is a cost to using
WDS .... Cost of a MS server license.
