MDT achieves the same thing in a different way: It copies all the drivers needed locally on the system (into C:\Drivers), then tells Windows to inject all of those drivers into the Windows driver store via an unattend.xml entry. The end result is the same – mostly. The difference is that PNPUTIL can only be used in the new already-running OS, so it’s too late for drivers that might be needed during first boot, or drivers where you want a newer driver than what is included in-box to be installed.
