To be fair, it's happened before... once recently with the Venue line, and another time about seven years ago with the Precision line. I think the recent Venue example is a result of Dell offshoring their BIOS development. (Just my guess.)

I think I am operating on faulty information. Both of the two 5810s I have are reporting 'Precision Tower 5810' back to SCCM. I would swear that wbemtest showed Precision T5810 when I was setting up the first one to get the driver pack going, but this is probably a false alarm. Sorry about that. The new generation of Precision workstations are definitely called "Precision Tower" instead of the old "T" prefix. Having said that, I've not seen any of them that have used the old naming convention. I think they're dropping the alpha prefix from all models going forward. Freddy From: [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Miller, Todd Sent: Thursday, 20 November 2014 7:00 AM To: [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> Subject: [MDT-OSD] Dell changing model names? heads up... I think Dell might be adjusting their model names. I had a new precision a few weeks ago with the model name Precision T5810. Today I received one with the model name 'Precision Tower 5810'. This sort of change will require reworking of any task sequences you might have that detect model name and then apply an appropriate driver pack for that model or update BIOS or anything else you have based on WMI filters for Model name. I hope this doesn't turn into a fiasco. Does anyone here know what is going on? ________________________________ Notice: This UI Health Care e-mail (including attachments) is covered by the Electronic Communications Privacy Act, 18 U.S.C. 2510-2521, is confidential and may be legally privileged.
