Try running blat from the 2012 server if it can not relay off your smtp server
then the CDO will also fail.

Ok, well I'm going to ask a potentially stupid question. On your SMTP server,
for us when we need to add a new server to be allowed to use the smtp ...we
have to go into IIS 6.0 manager, the SMTP virtual server properties, and under
Access, Connection (and also Relay), add in the new server IP address. That's
so that only our defined processes can use that particular SMTP service. Did
you confirm that this new server 2012 r2 box has the access rights to that smtp
service ?

I am relaying to an internal SMTP server, no SMTP on the server in question.

Does this help?

  it's not about server 2012 r2; but if that port is 8025 on your 2008r2, but
isn't on your 2012 r2... maybe...

So I have an odd question. I have a vbscript that runs at the end of the OSD
deployment that works wonderfully in 2008 R2, but I get an error when the
script runs on 2012 R2. This basic script runs on 2008 R2 but not 2012 R2, the
script errors when executed in an already installed 2012 R2 server.

Error Message
“CDO.Message.1: The transport failed to connect to the server.”

Sample Script
sEmail="[email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>"
smtpServer="yourmailserver"

Set msg = CreateObject("CDO.Message")

msg.To = sEmail
msg.Subject = "Perfect!"

    .Fields("http://schemas.microsoft.com/cdo/configuration/smtpauthenticate";)=0
