Penyebab kecelakaan pesawat, selain umumnya disebabkan oleh cuaca yang buruk, juga disebabkan karena adanya air pocket. Air pocket yang berarti wilayah yang memiliki tekanan udara rendah sehingga bisa membuat pesawat kehilangan ketinggian secara tiba-tiba. Akibatnya pesawat bisa terlempar ke atas atau ke bawah. Di perairan Masalembo, Sulsel terdapat kawasan Segitiga Bermuda ala Indonesia. Di perairan ini, tiga pesawat hilang berurutan pada 1961. Ketika itu, sebuah pesawat milik Garuda dinyatakan hilang saat melintas diatas perairan tersebut. Ketika tim evakuasi mencarinya, mereka pun seolah ditelan alam. Begitu pula dengan helikopter yang hendak menolong. Ketiganya hingga kini tidak diketahui keberadaannya. Selain diperairan Masalembo, masih ada titik-titik air pocket di Indonesia. Salah satunya adalah di Teluk Bayur di dekat perairan Padang. Di perairan ini pesawat Merpati Airlines pernah hilang dan tak ada kabar sampai sekarang.
