6.1 magnitude quake jolts Maluku Ambon (ANTARA News) - A magnitude 6.1 quake jolted Maluku province at around 11.30 pm local time (9.30 pm Western Indonesian Time) on Thursday causing panic among residents. The head of the local Meteorology and Geophysics Agency, Beni Sipolo, said the epicenter of the quake was located at 3.69 degrees South Latitude and 127.05 degress East Longitude in a depth of 58 kilometers close to Buru Island waters, 73 kilometers southwest of Ambon. He said the quake did not have the potential to trigger a tsunami and therefore he called on the people to remain calm. He said he had received no report of damage or casualties. Many people in the provincial capital Ambon rushed out of their homes for fear of the quake that lasted for around three minutes.
