Berikut artikel di blognya Maylaffayza, terkait pemberitaan di detikcom yang
amat mengecewakan dirinya karena tak sesuai dengan kenyataan:
Some of you may have come across this article on detik.com entitled
"Maylaffaiza Hebohkan Peserta Rakernas II PAN" about my performance at the
Rakernas PAN in Palembang last Friday. This is not a major issue, but I just
want to share with my friends here what my side of the story is... (as my
Multiply friends Tomi Satryotomo, and penangwolf have supported me to do)
Besides the incorrect spelling of the name, the article really saddens me. I
mean.. There I was.. returning to my hometown of Jakarta, the capital of this
nation, feeling glorious after 2 emotional performances in Palembang in one
single day. That morning, my team had picked up 2 Palembang newspapers (posted
in previous entry) with my pictures on their front pages... When I was up on
stage, I was feeding off of the positive energy from the crowd, and I also gave
them a performance that I hoped had energized them as well. So I really think
that I connected well with the audience out in BKB as well as in Novotel for
the opening of the Rakernas II PAN. And I think it is quite obvious that
Palembang journalists enjoyed my presence there, and they made the effort to
interview me and also Googled my background information.
However, a journalist from a trusted online media in Indonesia wrote an article
with a different angle. From several articles written on the Rakernas PAN II,
it seems that journalist normally covers political news and is on assignment
there from Jakarta to report on the event, as well as comments from top PAN
figures on current issues as the Pasuruan civilian shooting, Cawagub DKI, etc.
So, the story on my performance seemed to be a 'bonus feature' story.
I've translated and summarized the article for you:
Participants of the PAN (National Mandate Party) were shocked by a performance
of violinist Maylaffayza. Her revealing gown instantly caused reactions from
the crowd.
When the Master of Ceremony called her to perform on stage, the crowd responded
differently as she appeared. Some clapped their hands, some shouted "Long live
PAN!", and some shouted "Allahu Akbar" at the Novotel Palembang Hotel on Friday
evening.
The head of the advisory committee of PAN Amien Rais was seen shaking his head.
Amien was accompanied by PAN's chairman Soetrisno Bachir, and Vice Chairman of
the People's Consultative Assembly - AM Fatwa.
A group of journalists also did not want to miss the chance to scramble in
front of the stage and took snap shots of beautiful woman with their cameras.
This lasted until Maylaffayza finished performing her music.
This rush receded when a woman, wearing a Moslem headscarf, from the organizing
committee went to the stage and put a PAN jacket on Maylaffayza. The face of
Maylaffayza was blushing as this was taking place.
"I am thankful and grateful to Allah because this nation still has an honest
figure who is one of the forefathers of PAN" said Maylaffayza after having
robed in a PAN jacket.
Here's my opinion of the article:
This article contains too many assumptions on what was taking place, based
on the interpretation of the journalist.
After almost 2 hours of formal speeches, I really felt that the participants
in the room were delighted with my presence. It was very welcoming for me. And
I made several speeches as well between my songs and the whole conference room
cheered to them in agreement. So there were actually plenty of quotes to choose
from to be taken for the article.
Most participants of the conference had seen me perform at BKB in the
afternoon, which was only about 6 hours prior to the evening performance. So I
doubt that they were shocked. I think they were just pleasantly surprised that
I have returned for another performance for them that evening.
Pak Amien Rais has seen me perform numerous time (up to 5 times I think). I
even performed for the launch of his book in 2004 at Grand Hyatt - Jakarta. I
was told by several people in PAN that Pak Amien and his wife really enjoyed my
performance back then.
So when the article describes that Pak Amien was shaking his head, the
sentence somehow implies that he did in disagreement, or that he couldn't
believe what he was watching. In a speech after my performance, Pak Amien said
specifically that "Maylaffayza brings a new spirit to PAN". Why didn't the
journalist quote that, ya? That statement simply verifies that the 3rd
paragraph of the article is incorrect.
In the speech by chairman head Soetrisno Bachir immediately after the
performance, he also said that "Maylaffayza is the new colour of PAN". I think
that's a super positive statement.
The costume for my performances have been consistent all these years. My
mother makes the gowns herself to perfection for me, and they're all very
classy and elegant. So to call my gown 'revealing' is quite an overstatement or
just simply bombastic.
The woman who came to 'cover me up' with the PAN jacket, as the article
suggested, could have acted alone. I was indeed surprised that she did that.
Most people in the audience actually didn't agree to what she was doing and
shouted "No". Whatever her motivation was, I actually felt very honored that
she did that. It was like an official welcoming ceremony for me when she put
the jacket on me. How glorious! The woman and I shook hands and embraced, which
made it more emotional. It was one of the many moments that I cherished from
that evening. Meanwhile, many people in the audience still didn't agree to what
the woman had done. Yet many others were shouting in joy... So, no.. I wasn't
blushing.
I view that her gesture to come on stage as an act of love. Although it
seems that we have different perception and perhaps 'preference in appearance',
she showed her love in her own way. And I thank her for that.
