"We are very grateful for Indonesia`s assistance through the presence of its troops in the United Nations peace-keeping force in South Lebanon," Nawad Mussamawi, head the Hisbullah`s foreign relations department, told Indonesian reporters here Monday evening. He expressed hope that the next package of humanitarian assistance from Indonesia would consist of medicines, medical equipment and field hospitals. Commenting on the presence of Indonesian troops in South Lebanon, Mussamawi said they were very friendly and therefore they had gained the sympathy of the local people. "We hope Indonesian humanitarian assistance will directly go to the people who really need it, instead of going through the government`s complicated bureaucracy," Mussamawi said. President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono over the weekend sent an assortment of workng tools, including laptops, stationary and other things, to the Indonesian contingent in the United Nations peace-keeping force in Lebanon. The goods were flown to Lebanon on Saturday by a Hercules C-130 of the Indonesian Air Force`s Abdurrahman Saleh Squardron 32 base in Malang, East Java. Besides laptops and stationary, the President also despatched medical supplies and instruments for use by the Indonesian troops in Lebanon. In addition to the President`s assistance, the National Defence Forces (TNI) Headquarters had also sent food supplies and cigarettes. Meanwhile, Mission chief Col AJP Noch Bola said President Yudhoyono had also sent 3,600 tubes of toothpaste and tooth brushes, 3,000 school bags, 9,000 writing books and several power generators. "The writing books and school bags will be distributed to the local people, but the other items will be used to support the activity of Indonesian troops," Moch Bola said.(*) Copyright © 2007 ANTARA
