Federal Appeals Court Upholds Class-Action Status for Female Wal-Mart
Employees Claiming Discrimination

Subject: Breaking Legal Documents - Wednesday, February 7, 2007

DUKES V. WAL-MART, INC.
February 6, 2007

In a class action suit by women employees against Wal-Mart alleging sexual
discrimination under Title VII, certification of plaintiffs' class with
minor modifications is affirmed where there was no abuse of discretion in
a conclusion that it would be better to handle this case as a class action
instead of clogging the federal courts with innumerable individual suits
litigating the same issues repeatedly.

EBSCO purchased the Combined Index to Nursing and Allied Health database
and print index early last year and is going to eliminate distribution of
access to this database and to SportsDiscus that EBSCO also bought by
competing databases. Until February of last year I had nothing but major
trouble using EBSCO databases. The events that changed this situation
for me and for the rest of the world for that matter, as within a month of
my interactions with EBSCO, the FindLine search was made universal to all
EBSCo using sites worldwide, are outlined in this Net-Gold post.

I might add that the most effective post I ever sent in my life was the
one to MEDLIB-L discussed in this post.

Additional related issues are discussed in this Net-Gold post.

Currently MEDLIB-L is having an extensive and useful airing of the issues
faced by the EBSCO takeover of the CINAHL database and its impact on
searching nursing and medical literature.

Below is a post that invites reposting that shares citations pertinent to
the transition of this database. I recommend this post and the others in
this thread as very important reading in the MEDLIB-L archives.

WRTI 90.1-FM Split Signal Broadcasts 24-Hour Jazz,
Classical Formats in HD
<http://www.temple.edu/temple_times/january07/WRTIsplitsignal.html>

WRTI had been making the move toward HD since last January 2006, but
officially started broadcasting its two stations in late December, said
Dave Conant, the stations executive director.

With its split signal, WRTI continues to broadcast classical music from 6
a.m. to 6 p.m. and jazz from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. on its primary frequency,
90.1-FM. On its secondary channel, available at the same frequency to
listeners with digital or high-definition receivers, the hours for the
two formats will be switched.

In effect, the change enables the station to double its programming by
airing 24 hours of both formats every day, seven days a week.

If classical music comes on and the listener doesnt like it, he can switch
to our other channel, Conant said. We call it super-serving the audience.

WRTI is one of four public radio stations to multicast statewide and one
of two in the Philadelphia market, the other being WHYY-FM. In
Pennsylvania, 20 radio stations both public and commercial are
multicasting.

<snip>

HD radio receivers, which cost close to $500 for home consumers, have yet
to penetrate Philadelphia and other markets, lagging behind the rapid
spread of HD television sets. But industry analysts expect them to take
off as prices decline and more stations begin to multicast.

<snip>

In addition to providing the ability to multicast, digital signals elevate
FM radio to near CD-quality sound and eliminate static and white noise
that is common to traditional broadcasts.
