ShoreTel , which sells software for corporate phone systems, plans to
announce on Thursday that it has acquired Agito Networks, which allows
people to use their mobile phones as if they were using a desktop unit.

The $11.4 million deal expands ShoreTel’s line of products to address
what it calls the mobile worker. These are the employees on the road who
still want the features that a corporate phone system provides, like a
company directory, a single voice mail, conference calling and the
ability to transfer calls to colleagues.

Downloading Agito’s software onto a smartphone transforms it into an
extension of a corporate phone system. Companies are increasingly
equipping their workers with smartphones, but without tethering them to
the office.

Agito’s software works with a number of mobile devices, including
iPhone, BlackBerry, Nokia and phones powered by Windows. Android phones
are not currently compatible.

The software can be used on Avaya, Cisco and Windows corporate phone
systems.
