Apple meets response deadline from Scandinavian regulators on
      iTunes

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Aug 01, 2006 (AP Worldstream via COMTEX News Network) --

Apple Computer Inc. met a Tuesday deadline set by Scandinavian
consumer agencies to respond to claims the iPod maker is violating
their contract and copyright laws with its product usage restrictions.

The deadline was part of increased pressure from Europe to have Apple
open up its iTunes Music Store so that purchased songs could be
played on any portable music player and not just the iPod.

The Scandinavians contend Apple's system of making its market-leading
iPod players the only compatible portable player for iTunes downloads
is illegal and tramples consumer rights.

In June, agencies in Norway, Denmark and Sweden set the Aug. 1
deadline for the Cupertino, California-based company to respond,
saying they could take Apple to court if they were unsatisfied with
its answer and possibly seek an injunction against it, banning iTunes
from their markets.
