Hi Yost, welcome to the world of Mediawiki! Honestly, I haven't found a wiki software better than Mediawiki. I experimented with various wiki and CMS softwares using my two websites. I tried Tikiwiki, I tried Joomla and I tried Drupal and only my Mediawiki website is up, while the one finally using Drupal was collecting dust for over a year.
And when you use Mediawiki, I doubt you would want to use anything else. Linking is a breeze. Just imagine the linking in Drupal and Joomla which is the same as in WordPress. If your website has a lot of contents, you will appreciate the productivity in Mediawiki. I think I can write 2 to 3 articles with the time I spent with other softwares. The only thing I don't like about Mediawiki is the side panel and the horizontal tab. It looks ugly but Wikia has proven that this can be customized. Hope you enjoy the experience! You don't need to be an expert in php... but I am trying to pick up the language so that I can do some customization. Incidentally, I started with no knowledge and the first website was installed by my webhost. Now, I install it myself when I replace my Drupal with Mediawiki as my webhost only instal the first software free for me. It's very easy. But I haven't figure out how to upgrade, LOL.
