Hi Charlotte, thank you for your reply. I just got a response from Mediawiki Forum and I suspect that it is caused by my using the Monobook.php Version 1.13 for my unupgraded Mediawiki Version 1.10. I will upgrade it and see if it works.
Reason for doing such a silly thing: My Monobook.php was slightly corrupted and did not displayed well on IE, although it displayed perfectly in Firefox. Even so, the category box displayed correctly and so this is a case of from the frying pan into the fire, LOL.
