math folder just contains png files. You can copy it happily (or also not copy it and have them be regenerated). Copying the executable file might work or not. Give it a try and try to run the program. No linux distribution is better suited for mediawiki than others. You could discriminate choosing a distribution that provides modern versions of php and mysql. That's more likely to impact you.
