I think what you need there is an extension that will replace some text
with some other text (markup). Do a search on the MediaWiki extensions
and see what you can find.

If you can't find anything that will do this generically, you'll need to
write your own extension. I'd suggest ripping off the code in this one
as a basis, and replace the 'awesome' stuff with '•' :)
