I use 5.3 and works for me. try using the mediawiki 1.25 which is currently
being prepared to be released try it. it is a pre release and you would need to
download the skin and also vendor manualy. but should work. since it is a month
a way from release.

is some funky stuff happening in 5.3 php versions. I have observed this locally
and on hosts. Changing to 5.4 fixed everything.
